It's Going Fast

"Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good." Job 9:25 KJV

Job was right in the middle of the greatest trial of his life. Satan had been given free course to do all he wanted to Job save taking his life. It is a great comfort to a troubled soul to remember that it is not long until this life passes and eternity begins. He said his days are swifter than a post. A post is a footman or messenger who carries mail or a message with great speed.

Job said his life was moving faster than that post. I want to look at what this swiftness means to the lost man as well as the saved man. The Bible very plainly teaches that our life is like a vapor and is short at best. As I look out my study window there is a woods that I can see across the road. It seems just yesterday it was winter and there were no leaves on the trees. A day or two passed and spring came and brought green leaves, and now fall has come and old man winter is just around the corner.

First, I want to speak to the lost on the swiftness of time. Satan tells men they should get saved later at a more convenient season. Sinner man, I pray that you could see your sin and the true condition you are in. You, right now, are hanging over hell by a thread. At any moment, God could cut the string. Every tick of the clock is saying, condemned, lost, without hope. Time is working against you at this very hour. Oh that men could see their depravity. Flee to Christ for the salvation of your soul. Look in the mirror right now. Can you believe it, time has slipped along and you can see it has. Today is the day of salvation. If the Holy Spirit has begun a good work, ask God to grant you repentance and faith.

To the saved, time is also moving fast. We are told in the scripture to remember our creator in the days of our youth. Youth is a wonderful time of life. It is a shame most waste their best years on the world and sin. They sow their wild oats in youth and spend the rest of their lives regretting the harvest they produce. I know if I live to old age, there will be a time when physically I won't be able to do what I do now. I pray God, being my helper, that I can do what I can while I can. I want to serve my Lord. God has called and allowed me to be a preacher. I want to preach with zeal and spirit of power. Lord, help those of us that are saved to serve, worship, study, witness, pray, and preach while we have our youth and health. Time is going fast and in a few days, old age will come. God help us to work while it is day for the night cometh when no man worketh. Amen.
